Our mission starts with the families

The mission of the Old Breed Rugby Club is twofold: 1. Honor and remember our Fallen teammates. 2. Support the families of our Fallen teammates.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Old Breed Rugby Club. Over the past 20 years we have done our best to remember those that we used to play with, supporting their families when possible.

Our signature event became the CanAm tournament in Saranac Lake, NY, growing from one side of 17 old boys to the Old Breed being one of the preeminent clubs in attendance. In 2023, we entered 6 sides including a social side, multiple old boys sides, and our women’s side. The year 2024 will also mark the 50th anniversary of the CanAm tournament. Always an amazing event, this year will prove to be the biggest and best tournament yet.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of our club and to support ALL the families of our Fallen, we are proud to announce the 2024 Families of the Fallen Outreach program. The mission of the 2024 Families of the Fallen Outreach program is to have each of our Fallen teammates’ families represented at the CanAm tournament. As is tradition, our Friday night memorial ceremony will include the reading of the names of all 45 teammates on our roster of the Fallen. We want their families to know that we remember their loved ones by saying their names. An African proverb says:

“As long as you speak my name, I will live forever.”

The club will aid with travel and lodging expenses for the families to attend the tournament weekend with the Old Breed. We have already secured a block of rooms to accommodate those who are able to attend. Flight and/or driving costs will be supplemented by the Old Breed*. Yes, this plan is ambitious but we understand the profound positive impact this weekend will have for the families of the Fallen.
