Matthew J. Wargo, Corporal

Born in Norwalk on September 29, 1982, he was a son of Debbie Gorman Wargo of Ansonia and the late Bruce Wargo. A graduate of Masuk High School, Class of 2001, he was currently attending Southern Connecticut State University. A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he completed and graduated Honor Guard Private 1st Class from Parris Island, S.C.

Matt proudly served his country during two tours of duty in Iraq. A distinguished Marine, he received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. While in Iraq, he came under heavy fire and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, as well as, the Iraq Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, as well as, many additional commendations.

An avid sportsman, he starred in football at Masuk High School, played rugby for the New Haven Old Blacks and was a personal trainer and bodybuilder. In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include three sisters, Ellen Mozzi and her husband, Alan of Stratford, Jessica Wargo of Staten Island, N.Y. and Amanda Wargo of Ansonia; his paternal grandmother, Eleanor Wargo of Norwalk; an aunt and uncle, Sue-Ellen and Bert Chieffalo of Fairfield; and his father and mother-in-law, Michael and Rose Mary Lalonde of Monroe. He truly enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews, Suzanne and Michael Mozzi and Michael Jr. Alex and Jax Iovino.
